Come to Baja this winter to sharpen your expedition skills, stretch your dynamic-water judgment, and explore what happens when experienced paddlers start paying closer attention to how they make decisions.
Seamanship—sea-person-ship—is built one decision at a time. Reading the water, choosing a route, judging conditions, managing a group, knowing when to commit and when to change course: these are skills that become fluid through experience, reflection, and practice. There is no shortcut.
The Sea Leader Expedition takes those skills into the living classroom of the Gulf of California—the Sea of Cortez—where every day on the water brings new conditions, new decisions, and new possibilities.
Rather than simply teaching techniques, we invite you behind the curtain to see the questions an experienced leader is asking, the information they are noticing, and the decisions they are making as the trip unfolds. And then we invite you into that process.
If you’re an experienced paddler looking for a challenging, beautiful winter journey, you’re welcome simply to paddle, explore, and test yourself in Baja’s dynamic coastal environment.
If you’re interested in developing your leadership, you’ll have opportunities to take the helm of the group, make real decisions, and reflect on your leadership with the safety net of an experienced coach. Ginni Callahan, an ACA and Paddle UK leadership trainer with more than 25 years of guiding experience in Baja, will be alongside you to help you notice, question, experiment, and learn.
Because kayaking is really about life: paying attention, making choices with incomplete information, responding to what actually happens, and learning from the experience. Let’s open those conversations.
For paddlers pursuing leadership certification
The Sea Leader Expedition can also be a pathway for experienced leaders working toward recognition or certification as:
- British Canoeing Sea Kayak Leaders
- British Canoeing Endorsed Guides
- ACA Coastal Kayak Trip Leaders
Prerequisites apply. If you’re pursuing certification, endorsement, or assessment, let us know at least 30 days before the expedition and provide evidence of your prerequisites. You’ll also have some pre-trip preparation to complete so that we can make the most of our time on the water.
Come sharpen your judgment. Stretch your leadership. Paddle somewhere extraordinary.
