Two Seas Journey!

NEW TRIP!

The Two Seas Journey is one of the most extraordinary expeditions we offer, combining two of Baja California Sur’s most iconic marine environments into a single 10-day adventure. Five days are spent exploring the wild Pacific waters of Magdalena Bay, followed by five days paddling the spectacular islands of the Gulf of California, including Isla Danzante and Isla Carmen.

This journey showcases the remarkable contrast between Baja’s two seas. On the Pacific side, Magdalena Bay offers vast mangrove estuaries, sweeping sand dunes, and nutrient-rich waters teeming with life. In the Gulf of California, the scenery shifts dramatically to crystal-clear turquoise water, volcanic islands, dramatic cliffs, and white-sand beaches.

Magdalena Bay is the meeting place of two significant ocean currents, creating an enormous upwelling of nutrients that supports astonishing biodiversity. Sea lion colonies, thousands of migratory birds, gray whales, sea turtles, and dolphins are all part of this thriving ecosystem.

In the Gulf of California, often called “the world’s aquarium” by Jacques Cousteau, you’ll paddle among some of the most beautiful islands in Mexico. Loreto National Park is home to abundant marine life, rugged desert landscapes, and secluded beaches ideal for camping under the stars.

This is a fully supported expedition, traveling by sea and exploring day by day. Our experienced guides and support team handle logistics so you can focus on the adventure and immerse yourself in the rhythm of expedition life.

The Two Seas Journey offers an unparalleled opportunity to experience the best of Baja’s Pacific and Gulf coasts in one unforgettable trip—an expedition rich in wildlife, cultural insight, and the profound beauty of two very different but equally spectacular seas.

Sample Itinerary – Mag Bay Wildlife Journey
PANGA-SUPPORTED CAMPING TRIP IN SEA KAYAKS

Subject to weather, Port closures, and other fun factors intrinsic to “Adventure” tourism. We can start South and paddle North, or vise versa.

Day 0. Meet in Loreto for a pre-trip briefing and to fit your equipment.

Day 1. Drive to San Carlos and enjoy a delicious lunch of locally caught seafood. Load the motorboat and the kayaks in the early afternoon. Paddle across the bay and into the beginnings of mysterious mangrove mazes. Camp at La Duna Grande “Big Dune” or Estero de las Amazonas. 6nm.

Day 2. Paddle along a crescent isthmus of scenic sand dunes to Estero Magdalena, a mangrove estuary. Start to appreciate the richness of the life supported by these waters as you pass Bird Island. Add to that as you beachcomb for odd shells during a stretch-break on a sandy beach. 12nm.

Day 3. Layover in the estuary camp. If the Pacific Surf is good, hire a truck from the nearby island village of Magdalena and move the kayaks a mile across the isthmus to play! It’s also a nice walk to the pacific side and back. There are more mangrove mazes to explore nearby, with bountiful bird life.

Day 4. Paddle south to camp at the mouth of the bay looking towards Isla Margarita. Again ride the ebbing tide but with dramatically different scenery. Here we skirt the mountainous flank of Isla Magdalena along a rocky coast. The typical north wind may give us a nice push and perhaps some wind-waves to ride. 10nm..

Day 5. Cross to and ride a taxi cab to Loreto. We’ll camp in playa El Quemado. We’ll also get a resupply here for continuing our expedition.

Day 6. No motor boat support from this point on. Paddle to Danzante Island and have a picnic lunch. Cruise onward to Isla del Carmen and set up camp with an expansive view of mountains, islands and open sea. Approx. 6 nautical miles.

Days 7- Wake up on a beach. Life is good! Look for shells embedded in the limestone cliffs. Check out the wildlife along the way. Magnificent frigate birds, dolphins, pelicans. Stop at a beach for lunch. Settle into a new camp and dive deep into the night sky for a spectacular show of stars, planets, and the moon in one of her various phases. Approx. 6nm.

Day 8-. Leave camp set up and explore more of Carmen’s coastline. Sea caves, volcanic cliffs. Underwater, too, discover the abundance of underwater life by snorkeling the rocky reefs. Ten percent of the fish species found here live nowhere else on earth! 2-10nm.

Day 9. Sip fresh-brewed hot coffee as the aroma of hot-cooked breakfast wakes up your appetite. After breakfast, cross back to Danzante Island for more fun paddling and an appreciation of colorful geology. Take the afternoon sun as an invitation to snorkel and see the explosion of color and life just under the surface.

Day 10. Let the sun wake you up with a smile. Recognize the magic of a new day and raise a fresh-brewed toast to whatever it has in store! Pack up and enjoy a final few miles of paddling to the take-out. Return to hotels/campground for that well-deserved shower. 6nm.

Day After. Relax in Loreto. Or fly out with great Baja memories to share!
